The past few years of disarmament negotiations have seen an increased focus on the so called ‘Humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons‘. With international conferences in Oslo in 2013 and Nayarit in 2014, the government of Austria will host the third of such conferences, namely the ‘Vienna Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons‘ (HINW14).
The conference will take place 8 – 9 December 2014 in Vienna and may be attended by governmental, IO, CSO and academia representatives. There is a possibility to register, although participation may be restricted to senior experts, and (high-ranking) diplomats. Please see the draft program, to learn more about what will be discussed/presented.
Perhaps more suitable for interested newcomers, independent researchers, laymen and otherwise concerned individuals, the International Campaign for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) is hosting a so-called ‘ICAN Civil Society Forum Vienna‘. To register, please go to http://goodbyenuk.es/. The forum will precede the HINW14 from 6 – 7 December 2014. To get an impression of what the forum entails, what you can get can out of it, have a look at its promotional video:
