The escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict has reignited a decades-old discourse: Previously known as the “Euromissiles” concept during the Cold War, nuclear weapons are just as present on European territory as they used to be. How do the concepts of nuclear weapons free zones (NWFZ) and nuclear disarmament interact? What would be the benefits and negative spin-offs of a NWFZ in Europe?
The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) organizes a seminar with Professor Dr. Harald Müller, Executive Director, Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), and Mr. Giorgio Franceschini, Research Associate, PRIF. The event is entitled “A Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone in Europe: Academic Digression or Realistic Policy Option?” and will assess the potential of securing a NWFZ in Europe prospectively.
The event is held Thursday, 23 April 2015 at 1 p.m. in the Conference Room of the VCDNP. Refreshments will be served at 12:45.
